I was headhunted at time of acquisition by STM and joined Nokia Consumer Electronics as MD UK & Ireland. Nokia decided to focus on its mobile phone business around 1992 & closed its Consumer (TV, Satellite) business in Europe. I did a few years of marketing consultancy as a sole trader during which I graduated with a PGCE in adult training (mainly teaching electronics, sales marketing and business module of PGCE at Newbury Tech.) I retired in 2003 and set out to achieve some of the things & hobbies I wanted to pursue. I started ballroom & Latin dancing ( something I did as a young man 🤣) and set out to learn to sail. I took my first sailing course in February 2004 and bought my own sailing yacht, Christine Marie, a 31 ft Westerly Tempest at the end of that year. I lived sailing and having gained my YM offshore RYA qualifications by 2008 set out on a major challenge I set myself. I wanted to prove to myself I could now sail and set sail to circumnavigate the UK. I sailed 3000M over a 2 year period visiting all the harbours I could access with my 1.5m draft. A huge personal challenge for me and one that helped me personally with recovery from the loss of my daughter, Anne, who I lost early after I joined Inmos reporting to Douglas Stephenson. Now living in Highcliffe on the S Coast.
I found the site looking for information on Inmos colleagues I worked with in the years 1986-1989 leading up to the acquisition of Inmos by STM. At 85 last week my memory of names is fading and hopefully some on this site can jog my memory. I have fond memories of my time with Inmos and what we achieved as a team. Looking forward to hearing from some of you.
